Last year we announced the CHC Luders Acceus Scholarship, a $3,000-a-year scholarship that covers tuition, room, and board for an aspiring pastor to attend STEP Seminary, a key CHC partner in the Haitian reconstruction effort.
You may recall that Luders Acceus was pursuing a bachelor’s in theology at STEP with plans to join his father’s ministry when he was killed in the earthquake, along with his sister. We committed the 2012, 2013 and 2014 scholarships to Luders’ only surviving sibling, Luzence, and his theology studies at STEP, which will begin when he completes his final year of high school this year.
As Luzence prepares to enter STEP in 2012, CHC is pleased to announce the 2011 recipient of the scholarship: Apollon Arnold, a former “Compassion Child” who, based on his commitment to Christ and personal and academic achievements, was unanimously selected for the STEP Scholarship by the CHC Executive team at STEP Seminary.
Apollon has dedicated his life to addressing the problems he faced as a child in Haiti head-on. He knows from experience what children attending local churches are up against, with a chronic lack of access to education and basic needs – such as food, housing, and a support network. Apollon believes with the right guidance and mentors, these children and young adults can and will dedicate their lives to successfully serving Christ.
He says his studies at STEP have given him the discipline, education and support he has needed to succeed. He’s excited to use what he learns at STEP to make an impact on his recovering nation.
As a CHC partner, know the support you have given Apollon will impact generations of believers.
Apollon’s heart is humble, and his gratitude is deep. “Thank you to all churches to help me continue my studies at STEP,” he says.
