A Pastor’s Story: Ernst Joseph

Pastor Ernst Joseph leads a congregation of approximately 1,000 worshippers each week at L’Eglise de la Derniere Heure (“The Church of the Final Hour”) in Carrefour, Haiti.

Serving as the Churches Helping Churches prototype church, Pastor Joseph recruited nearly three times the amount of workers needed to build the new structure for L’Eglise de la Derniere Heure.  He donated his temporary church structure to another congregation, and then met in the heat for months while our supplies were tied up in customs without a single word of complaint. His congregation also raised funds to benefit victims of the Japanese Tsunami, though most members of his congregation live off of less than $2 a day.

He says the earthquake has given his church a new passion and new vision for evangelism.

Every day, as their new building went up, Pastor Joseph’s volunteers toiled in an environment of unceasing prayer and thanksgiving.  At the church dedication, the congregation erupted into spontaneous singing and dancing, unable to hold in their praise.

Pastor Ernst Joseph calls L’Eglise de la Derniere Heure’s partnership with Churches Helping Churches a miracle.

“This is just the beginning,” he says.  “This is the first blessing God has for us in this new season.”
